HEART OF GOLD

Writer/Director  Feature film 2023. A U.S. Army deserter struggles to adjust to life as a fugitive in Canada,  while back in Texas his ex-girlfriend becomes increasingly radical as an antiwar activist. 

FLOATING ISLANDS 

Writer/Director 24 m. drama 2019.  A Pentecostal camp counsellor on a western Washington island meets two fugitives from El Salvador who are trying to reach the  Canadian border. Over the course of a long day, she must decide whether she can – or will – help them.

BEFORE IT BLOWS

Writer/Director 1996. 8 minutes. A tourist's video camera records the long wait for the Old Faithful geyser to erupt.  Just outside the frame, onlookers fill the time with their own preoccupations 

LEY LINES

Writer/Director/ Editor/Additional Cinematography. 

74 minute hybrid documentary. 

An extended essay about identity within family and memory.

DEEP SLEEP

Writer/Director. Dramatic Feature 1990. 89 minutes. A teenaged girl, tormented by nightmares of witnessing her father’s murder, returns to the family home in hopes of remembering what really happened.   She finds an ally in a young Filipino-Canadian whose mother seems to have a key to the mystery, while her father’s best friend,  an American naval officer, hides another ugly secret. 

LOW VISIBILITY 

Writer/Director/Editor. 1984. A man is found wandering on a snowy mountain road and taken to a hospital, where doctors, therapists and nurses try to discover whether his inability to speak is traumatic or a strategy to conceal a dark secret.  Meanwhile, a police detective calls on a psychic for a different approach to solving the enigma.  In the end, we’re asked to question our own deductive processes. 

SIFTED EVIDENCE

Drama, 42 minutes.  Writer, Director, Editor. A woman is telling the story of how she went to Mexico looking for an obscure archeological site; how she met a man who promised to take her there; how they stayed together locked in cross-purposes and misunderstandings -- how, but never why. The central event has been reconstructed through stills, narration and enactment by two performers in a tableau limited by the boundaries of the front projection screen. 

THE CENTRAL CHARACTER

Writer/Director/Editor 1978. 16 minutes. In her kitchen, a woman makes moves to cook dinner but is chased outside by potato vines and devolves into a nonentity.  Inspired by John Jaynes’ The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind.
